Lorillard memo from Scott Benson to Victor Lindsley regarding the Kool Campaign Evaluation. Discusses findings from focus groups (by RIVA Market Research, Inc.) on "evaluation of Kool advertising among Newport, Kool, and Salem smokers," and among the "general market (White) and urban (Black) smoker segments." Finds Black Newport smokers did not find Kool ads appealing, White Newport smokers "were torn between Newport and Kool ads," Black Salem/Kool smokers preferred Newport ads because of their "realism," and White Salem/Kool smokers liked the Kool ads because of their image.
