FINAL REPORT: CIGARETTE USAGE STUDY CONDUCTED AMONG HISPANICS
Abstract
Measures the usage and purchase habits of Hispanic cigarette smokers in general, and males 18-24, in particular. Finds that Marlboro is the leader in the Hispanic market, with nearly nine out of ten males between the ages 18 and 24 smoking that brand. Includes detailed information on demographics, brand share, usage, and awareness of promotions.

WHETHER SMOKED OTHER SIZE, TYPE, BRAND OF CIGARE'FI'ES
Half of all respondents smoked another type of their current brand of cigarettes or another
brand of cigarettes entirely before choosing their regular brand.
Nearly all of those that had smoked a different type before choosing their present brand
and type were smoking a different brand completely (46%).
Smokers between the ages of 18 and 24 were the least likely to have been with another
brand before smoking their present brand (26% for both males and females).

PREVIOUS BRAND, SIZE OR TYPE OF CIGARET'I'E SMOKED
Marlboro was the brand Hispanics mentioned most often as the brand of cigarette they smoked
prior to choosing their current brand (18%). Among those who do not currently smoke
Marlboro, 34% smoked the brand previously.
Winston was the next most mentioned brand used previously by respondents. 13% of
all respondents used to smoke Winston, with 16% of those who currently use Marlboro
being former Winston users.
The brand mentioned most often by current Marlboro users was Raleigh, with about one-
in-five (18%) previously using the brand as their regular cigarette.
