Labeling

by Anne Landman

Explores labeling issues for cigarettes.

13 Dec 1991 PM grudgingly agrees to add warning labels to cigarette packs sold in foreign countries
In this document, PM announces that it will add warning labels to cigarettes in many foreign countries, apparently as a response to a stockholder proposal put forth by Father Michael Crosby of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility. A Q&A "prep sheet" at the last half of the document asks if PM has done this as a response to a "pressure group," and PM responds that it does not negotiate with pressure groups. AT the same time, a timeline for implementation of the new plan says to "Notify Crosby and request withdrawal of proposal."
