10 Apr 1985 President Kloepfer of the Tobacco Institute ibriefs the executive committee on the industry's ETS strategy
Quote (from his speech): "To summarize, the direction we are headed will be to deflect this issue [of ETS], to redefine it, to broaden it, to demonstrate as we have in the case of accidental fires and youth behavior that we are contributing to the solution rather than to the problem."
15 Apr 1986 Tobacco Industry works feverishly behind the scenes to prevent businesses from enacting significant voluntary workplace smoking policies.
The tobacco industry contacted an astonishing 1,500 companies through seminars, plus 170 additional large companies, 14 national, state and local chambers of commerce and 13 state restaurant groups as well as the National Restaurant Association in just the FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF 1986.
