~ TriData 1500 Wilson Boulevard Arlington, Virginia 22209 (703) 841-2975 Philip S. Schaenman President December 10, 1985 MEMORANDUM TO: Peter G. Sparber The Tobacco Institute ' .~ FROM: SUBJECT: Barbara Lundqui st&*__1f^'V Update of Fire Prevention Program Grant Recipients by State, and Recommendations -__I, Attached is an update of the Fire Prevention Program Grants by State list. It has been reformatted to 8 1/2 x 11 from spreadsheets for easier handling. More importantly the information has been focused on con- gressional districts rather than fire world politics. Grant recipients located in the districts of congressmen on the four committees of interest appear just below the appropriate congressman's name. All other recipients within a state are grouped under the senator's name, if any. Where neither of the above conditions apply, grants are listed under "Other," along with other contacts or relevant TI activities in the state. "Grant" recipients include departments given FireCare or the Evaluation Survey as well as those given AV equipment, etc. You might want to review congressmen with #1's or #2's where grants have been given to consider whether the congressmen have been informed of these activities. It may be appropriate in the important districts to give a new grant, possibly by having the previous rantee bring in surrounding fire departments and discuss the TI product(s~ they are using. Each "Note" contains further recommendations for grants. At this time grants are not recommended for #3's on any of the commit- tees or #2's on the Science and Technology Committee (just because we understand this is a somewhat lower priority than the Commerce Committees and Ways and Means, and there are many in the latter two categories). "Consider grant to..." is used for districts that are of somewhat higher priority (e.g. #1's and #2's on the Senate Commerce or House Energy and Commerce Committee or #1's on Ways and Means). "Also consider gr.ant to..." is for the slightly lower priority districts (e.g. #1's on the Science and Technology Committee or #2's on Ways and Means). The phrase "if appropriate" is used if we don't know whether the district is #1, #2, or #3. TI®K 0013571
