vo ~ November 6, 1980 MR. C. H. JIlJDGE : Lead CalifQrnia Lobbyist - A-K Associates, Inc. Tobacco InstitutefTobaccoTax Council I am pleased to advise you that the TI andi TTC have accomplished thej'oint selection o~fA-KAssociates,, Inc., as the Industry's lead"lobbyist in Californi&. Tom Konovaloff is the principal contact. A backgroundmemo on the firm. is. attached. The firm is hiet, hly regarded! in California. A-K will be the exclusive tobacco representatives in California - i.e., they will not undertake any otherr tobacco clients while in our employ. They will be paid $60,000, annually, $30,000 by each organization. Industry financial support of the 4'ATCD at aniannual level of approximately $25,0100 0 to $30,000 will continue. Although that support fias in the past been funded only by the TI, it too will be equally shared by TI and TTC in 1981. It is clearly understood, that A-K is the Indnstry"s lead lobbyist, and that in the event the TTC were to feel a need for any additional or different representation in the future, first recourse for such purpose will be to A-K Associates.
