TO: Mr. G.H. Long
SUBJECT: 20/20 Statement
Attached for your review is a statement we propose to give
to 20/20, ABC's equivalent to 60 Minutes. They are doing
a show concerning tobacco company sponsorships of events
and possible influence on youth. They requested interviews
with us primarily covering two areas: Team America and our
musical sponsorships, particularly Eric Clapton.
They have already interviewed Banzoff of ASH and Perchuck
of the FTC, both of whom singled out Team America as an
inappropriate tobacco company sponsorship due to soccer's
popularity with youth.
We would like to provide this statement instead of the
interview if you approve. It has been reviewed by Wayne
Juchatz, Greg Novak and Jim Johnston. I am sending a copy
of the statement to Mr. Horrigan concurrent with this memo
to you.
