KENT "BAD GUY" :60
SPECIFICALLY RELATED RECALL
1. I saw a cowboy or a cartoon of a cowboy. They have a jingle
with it. The latter part of it, "To a smoker it's a Kent."...
I just remember the cartoon and the Kents. Just cartoon picture
and the jingle.
Female--26--High School--Color
2. There was an animated cartoon where a guy held up a stagecoach.
Instead of taking gold he took the Kents. They caught him
and kept him in jail. When he was released he went out and
bought Kents...I don't think they said anything about them
being smoother, longer, slimmer etc. or even anything about
the taste or flavor.
Male--43--High School--B&W
3. Something about a man had been in jail and when he got out he
went straight to buy his Kent cigarettes...He had several
Kent cartoons of cigarettes laying around his feet.
Male--45+--Grade School--B&W
4. It showed a guy stealing the Kents and they caught him and
after getting out of jail he went across the street to buy
Kents. It was a western type of commercial...That the guy
preferred Kents even if he had to buy them.
Male--51--College--B&W
5. He (the man who rode the horse, the cowboy like, of coarse it
was a cartoon) stoled'the cigarettes instead of the money and
then he went straight and he bought the cigarettes after they
(the man who was giving the commercial and talking) caught
him. He had all the Kents in the country. I think it was
real cute...I saw him ride up and steal the Kents and get on
a horse and he rode off. Then the others on horses chased him.
They were chasing him to get the cigarettes. I think. They
got a nice little song that goes with it...They talked about
it being good, "Make it a Kent."...They talked about, "Make
it a Kent." It was a nice commercial. People would look more
at it than other commercials, especially young people.
Female--Refused--Refused--B&W
6. A man, a cowboy, stole some cigarettes from a box and ran away.
Several other men grabbed them from him and they (the cigarettes)
finally ended back where they started...There were cartoons.
Male--38--Refused--Color

You'll see why they say, `-To a smoker,

Note: With the exception of the "Mexican" film, the above represents Grey's first
real production for the Kent account. This spot retains the quick cuts on
still drawings but drops the "Happiness Is" musical theme.
