International Committee on Smoking Issues (ICOSI)
(ALL) Was formed to address and reverse the global decline in social acceptability of smoking occurring in the 1970s Consisted of the major tobacco manufacturers worldwide, was created to deal with the global decline in social acceptability of smoking. ICOSI was createdWas formed to produce countermeasures to issues of social cost and passive smoking, to research smoker behavior, to counteract the World Conferences on Smoking and health and to combat other issues facing the industry. ICOSI encouraged formation and recruitment of National Manufacutrer Membership Associations for tobacco companies in foreign countries where these companies were not organized to fight publi health authorities. ICOSI membership consisted of BAT, Philip Morris, R.J. Reynolds, Carrera Rothmans, Gallaher, Imperial and Reentsma tobacco companies (representing the U.S., the U.K. and Germany) [501473216]. Other parties included Verband der Cigarettenindustrie (Germany), Philip Morris Europe, the Tobacco Advisory Council (British version of the Tobacco Institute), Don Hoel of Shook, Hardy and Bacon (a U.S. law firm that worked for PM), the Tobacco Institute (U.S.), Philip Morris australia and Leonard Zahn (public relations consultant).
