Main player of corporate intrigue. King maker and destroyer. Totally unscrupulous. Wanted to oust Shep Pollack. Decided not to buy Cetus and Genentech. Would have created an interlocking directorate between IBM/PM. Hugh Cullman and Frank Resnick set up Pollack to take a fall for running off after investments in power co-generation. Pollack ousted with $10m severence pay. Cliff pulled the string.


Vice President, Philip Morris, and Assistant Chief of Operations in 1966 then he was Executive Vice President of Operations from 1967 to 1978. President from 1979 to 1983, Vice Chairman in 1984 and was on the Board of Directors from 1967 to 1984
