Battelle Research Institute/Battelle Laboratories/Battelle--Geneva Laboratories is a major testing laboratory for tobacco companies (D. Purser 4/22/94). Battelle--Geneva now called RCC? (D. Purser 4/22/94). In 1963, BAT sponsored nicotine addiction research by Battelle Research Institute in Geneva, Switzerland. There were studies by C. Haselbach and O. Libert, completed in 1963. In May 1963, a study was sent to BAT entitled "A Tentative Hypothesis on Nicotine Addiction," which said in part: "(The) body craves for renewed drug intake . . . this unconscious desire explains the addiction of the individual to nicotine" (Source 3/24/94).
