Bruce Ames is a Berkeley scientist. The Ames test, which shows whether a substance is mutagenic (mutation causing) was named after Ames. The Ames test was perfected in 1973 (L. White, Merchants 1988). See Ames screen, TTLA Almanac - Glossary.
