Abstract

Discusses progress in reducing the odor that comes from pyrolysis of the Elvax wax coating used on controlled profile cigarette prototypes. Says a sample polymer that has been purified by distillation will be tested for flavor properties. Says that bubble-coated olefin polymer coatings "have a good appearance" but "have not made good cigarets" on the Mark VIII (believed to be a prototype C.P. cigarette or cigarette machine). Testing for subjective evaluation continues against KOOL and Salem cigarettes. Testing on an Elvax Menthol Controlled Profile Cigarette continues. Preliminary investigation of alternate hole sizes shows increased rod dilution "is achievable." Plans continue to investigate using alternate hole sizes to achieve "improved profile maniupulation."
