SUBJECT: Semiannual Investigation e.constituted Tobaccos
The reconstituted tobacco from cigarettes of our
own and competitive brands manufactured in March, 1971, have
been investigated for material content and construction.
The only visible change noted since they were last
investigated in August, 1970, is P. Lorillard no longer contains
the inert silica like filler in their thick type reconstituted
sheet. Listed below are the types of reconstituted tobacco
currently being used:
1) Reynolds has one type made by the papermaking
process.
2) American has one type made by the papermaking
process. It has two colors--one dark and one
light.
3) Lorillard has two types made by the papermaking
process. One is approximately four times thicker
than the other, and is darker in color. It does
not contain the silica like filler which was
present when it was last investigated.
4) L& M has one type and one color and it is made
by the papermaking process.
5) Brown $, Williamson has two types, (a) the slurry
type process. It is dark on one side andlight
on the other. (b) the papermaking process sheet
is light in color.
6) Philip Morris has only one type. It is the only
company exclusively using a process other than
papermaking.
There was no visible evidence iniany of the reconstituted
tobacco of any type fibers natural or synthetic, other than tobacco
or any type of an inert filler.
