The reconstituted~tobacco from Philip Morris and
competitive brands manufactured in August, 1976, have been
investigated microscopically for material content.
There have been no obvious changes in the reconstituted
tobaccos of Philip Morris and its competitors since they were
investigated in January, 1976.
Listed are the descriptions of each company's reconstituted
sheets :
American has one dark sheet made by the paper-making!process.
It contains large pieces of tobacco leaf and stem.
Brown & Williamson has two types of reconstituted sheet. One
is a two tone cast sheet, the other is a light colored sheet
made by the paper-making process. Both sheets contain medium
size pieces of leaf and stem.
Liggett & Myers has one type of sheet made by the paper-making
process and contains medium size pieces of leaf and stem.
P. Lorillard has one type of reconstituted, sheet. It is a
dark sheet approximately four times thicker than any other
reconstituted sheet. It is made by the paper-making process
and contains large pieces of tobacco leaf and'stem.
Philip Mbrris has three types of reconstituted sheet, two are
by the paper-making process and the other is made by the slurry
process. `
1) H.R.L..is a light colored sheet containing large pieces of tobacco leaf and stem. Q

2) S.B.S. is a light colored sheet containing large Q
pieces of tobacco stem. ~
3) R.C.B. is a two tone cast sheet containing small ~
pieces of tobacco leaf and stem. ~

H..R.L. and S.B.S. are very similar in appearance. It is *
impossible to distinguish between the two when they are shredded

and mixed~in the cigarette filler.
Reynolds has one dark sheet made by the paper-making process.
It contains large pieces of tobacco leaf and stem.

Lafter disintegrating and staining with congo red stain.
