SUBJECT; FOLLOW-UP ON kWA SCIENTISTS MUTING
Upon returning to Richmond from the META Scientists meeting last
week, I have found that we do not have a formal image analysis
procedure for determining cut width of fi],ler, This is still a
research procedure and would depend a great deal on the equipment
available. I havee attached a general saaaple preparation guideline
that I obtained from K. Sanders but I d~ ~~IYP~TP ;* should be
given to SASO.
The specific legislation requiring an industry list in the US is the
Federal Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act of Public Law 98-474,
Section 5(a). This Act requires manufacturers to provide the
Secretary of Health and Human Services with a list of ingredients
added to tobacco in the manufacture of cigarettes annually beginning
with December 31, 1986. This information is confidential, trade
secret, and should not be promised to SASO.
I have discussed document TK-1685 from H. Dymond with F. Daylor and
he sees no problems with the Tables in this document. I have
further requested J. Bickett, C. Krausse and F. Daylor to check
again the final draft of the META response to SASO. The ~,
response has been to include the present ISO standards f- -eterence
in parenthesis, everywhere they exist, by the Gulf Stand:, '.....,
i.e. Gulf Standard.... (ISO No ?4YG).
Let me know if I can provide further information.
