I Table 2. The amplification of two oncogenes in human lung cancer tissues Two Oncogenes(f) Cell Type Cases ~~ One of three ~ C-Ha-ras ~ C-Ha-r19 „ C-myc oncogenes(+) +C-myc +C-sis +C-sis ' Squamous Cell 17 14 2 1 1 Carcinoma Adenocarcinoma 9 6 1 0 0 Small cell Carcinoma 6 4 0 0 0 Total 32 24 3 1 1 These results suggest that the amplification of these three oncogenes, in particularly the two oncogenes (C-myc and C-sis), is associated with the development of human lung cancer. The amplification of the C-Ha-ras gene may play an important role in the pathogenesis of squamous cell carcinoma. N O O ~ V O W ,P O -2- t0 1 I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I

I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I AMPLIFICATION OF C-MYC, C-HA-RAS AND C-SIS ONCOGENES IN HUMAN LUNG CANCER He Ling, Zhan De-jin, Chen Jia-kun, Wu Zhong-liang and Du Ying-xiu Institute for Chemical Carcinogenesis, Guangzhou Medical College, Guangzhou, China Gene amplification and protooncogene activation frequently have been found to be associated with the development of many tumors. To study the pathogenesis of lung cancer, we analyzed the amplification of C-myc, C-Ha-ras and C-sis oncogenes in human lung cancer tissues. Oligonucleotide probes made from plasmids pV-SIS, pHSR-1(C-myc) and pBC-N1(C-Ha-ras) were labelled with P32 dCTP. The amplification of C-myc, C-Ha-ras and C-sis oncogenes in 32 lung cancer tissue samples and 6 non lung cancer tissue samples (2 normal tissues, 2 lung abscess and 2 turtle lungs) was analyzed using the Southern hybridization technique. The results showed the following: Table 1. The amplification of C-myc, C-Ha-ras and C-sis oncogenes in human lung cancer tissues C-Ha-ras(+) C-myc(+) Cell Type Cases No. % Na:,. 0 Squamous Cell Carcinoma 17 10 58.8 4 23.5 4 23.5 Adenocarcinoma 9 3 33.3 3 33.3 1 11.1 Small Cell Carcinoma 6 2 33.3 1 16.6 1 16.6 Total 32 15 46.8 8 25 6 18.8 Non Lung Cancer 6 0 0 0 I
