We Card Training Sessions Help Retailer Better fU_^~
Understand Minimum Age Laws '.f~~'I
A key tenet of the Coalition for Responsible Tobacc U`o
Retailing's We Card Program, is that proper education and
training are critical to helping prevent minors from
obtaining cigarettes. Retailers caught selling cigarettes to
minors overwhelmingly report that the sales were by accident
-- the customer lo,oked like an adult, or for some reason the
employee felt uncomfortable asking for proof of age.
Understanding that the vast majority of retailers want
to uphold the law, but just need some guidance in how to go
about properly verifying a customer's age, CRTR-sponsored
training seminars are available free of charge. The purpose
of the seminars is to provide retailers with an opportunity
to interact directly with law enforcement officials, CRTR
professionals and with other retailers about compliance with
their state's minimum age laws.
Following is a list of upcoming CRTR training sessions.
If there is not one scheduled for your area, you may want to
call the Coalition at 1-888-872-4603 to find out if one is
planned for later this year.
