SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ON TOBACCO LEGISLATION
WASHNGTON, D.C_ -- Scitator loba McCain (R AZ), Chairwan of rhe Coxarnittee on
Commerce, Soxence, and Transportation, today sent President Clinton the flxst in a series of
specific
quesotions on the tobacco legislation.
°It's imperative that Congress and the adm9pisttation work together in a cooperative and bi-
partisan fashion if we ate to craft a bill that will gain public support, Congressional appraval and
your signaeire," McCain said in today's letter.
McCain asked the Administration to reveal its views and legislative recommendations on a
variety of tobanco-related issues including the following;
Ban on outdoor adverdsing, inoluding iu stadia and arenas
Ban on human figures and cartoon figures in advettising
Ban on Intarnet advertiging
Bah on point-of-sale advertising
Litnitations on point-of-sale advertising
Ban eu advertising resrYiction agreements
Glamorization of tobacco

"It is particularly important for the Administration to exercise its ezecutiva responsibilities
by ptoviding Congress with a detailed assessment of the proviaions in the pending legislation, and
specifc policy and legislative recommendations," McCain said.
