Philip Morris is pleased to enclose the second installment in the amount of $75,000 for a grant totaling $150,000 which was presented to you in support of your proposal entitled: "Relationship of Low Levels of Active Smoking to Mortality". The granting period is for two years. This installment is for the second year, 1998. We desire to fund quality scientific research and to promote the independent investigation of the issues described in the proposal. We request that we be kept informed of the progress of the research via periodic progress reports and by an annual presentation of the research findings to the Philip Morris Research and Development Community. Most importantly, we request that the results of the completed studies be published in peer-reviewed journals. Please keep me informed of the progress of your research. If the research contemplated by the proposal is completed and the total funds requested for this grant have not been expended, we expect a refund of the appropriate amount.
