16.JUN.1997 16?49 FM SCIENTIFIC AFFAIRS HONG KONG NO.459 _P.1/29 S PHILIP MORRIS INCORPORATED INTER-OFFICE CORRESPONDENCE Scientific Affairs Asia Japan-Australia To : Don Harris Date : June 16, 1997 From : Dr. Roger Walk Distribution : R. Carchman Subject : The ASEAN Science Reporting Awards Dear Don, Attached you wiii find a proposal put together by Julian Spindler on "The ASEAN Science Reporting Awards", This initiative was discussed within Corporate Affairs and Scientific Affairs sometime ago and now is put into a proposai outlining technical detai(s. I intend to convene a meeting in the near future at our Hong Kong office to discuss the proposal and it's impiementation. The keys for developing this into a successful program are cooperation between departments and money. For 1997 we have budgeted US$80.000 in the Scientific Affairs budget for the establishments of such a program. I need your help to: 1. define and agreed on the key technical specifications; 2. assign the responsibilities for the program; 3, ensure a medium term i.e. 3 year financial commitment and where eventually this budget would be kept. I propose to discuss the process between you and me at your earliest convenience and then convene a meeting which could include you, Rebecca Ng, Harold Dyrvik, Mark Friedman and Mingda Zhang. We could also ask Julian Spindler to join us, although I think that this will be more efficient at the later stage when the program has been more clearly defined. I have also added a"transcription" of the proposal into a presentation format which I plan to use for the meeting. It contains some additional (proposed) technicalities on T1 2-T14. Please let me have your comments, Best regards, Roger Walk C=iDArrawoanaVSSUEAWwir Mtiu-s,tRR78.aoc
