I have been working for many years in the field of neurclendocrine and behavioral
pharmacology, including behavioral toxicology and teratology, with interesting results
(a lisc of a few representative references is appended) _
Some time ago T studied the iafluence of prenatal exposure to cigarette smoke on the
offspring of rats, and found that the rate of avoidance acquisition was -significantty
betEer in the offspring of dams exposed to cigarette smoke than in controls
(ltiteuroUehav. Toxicol. Teratol. 4,545-548;1982).
More recently. I demonstrated that nicotine, intravenously injected, is extcemely
porenr and effective ut reversing a condition of severe hemorrhagic shock in rats
(Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's, Aseh_ Pharmacol_ 343,4?7-d.30:19'91).
At present, I am trying to start a research pro;ram concerning the effect of r.ricotinc
on learnina and memory, sexual behavior, behavior in depression-generating models,
and sensory-motor performance of aging rats, because several neurobiochernical data
would suggest beneficial effects of nicotine in these conditions. But I can't find any
financial support from Public organisuas for such a research.
So, T arn asking whether it might he possible to submit a detailed research project for
a grant.
