Using a special cigarette and a pager-sized lighter, Philip Morris says the system will reduce smoke, ash, and odor. Unlike regular cigarettes, the smokeiless system allows tobacco to burn only when it's puffed. And smokers must lift the entire device to their lips when they inhale. But is it really safer? Joe Cherner (Smokefree Education Services): For as iar as health goes, from the smoker's standpoint, it's no better, it stilll causes cancer. From people who don't smoke's standpoint, it's somewhat better because they're not exposed to the smoke coming out of the lit end.. However, they are exposed to the smoke that the smoker exhales_ Curran: Other critics call this smokeless cigarette; another example of how far the tobacco industry is willing to go to make a dangerous habit socially acceptable.
