He conceived, initiated and directs the university-wide center which is committed to reducing illness, expense and death resulting from tobacco use in the [ 1nited States. The research addresses a variety of tobacco-related epidemiologic and policy issues. Also, clinical research is conducted on the frequency and effectiveness of physician intervention with smoking patients as well as the efficacy of a nicotine transdermal patch as an aid for smoking cessation. lie is also Recipient, National Cancer Institute's Preventive Oncology Academic Award. The four-year career development award supports a wide range of preventive oncology research related to tobacco use. Other positions he holds are: Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine at the university and Member, University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prior to his current posts he was Medical Epidemiologist, United States Office on Smoking and llealth (OSH). His current clinical work experience includes, Attending Physician William S.
