Ms. Kaufman serves as a Vice President of The Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation. In this position, she develops and oversees grant programs in the
areas of substance abuse, health care reform, and public health. As a registered
nurse specializing in public health and preventive medicine, Ms. Kaufman has
over 20 years experience in the health care field. She was previously Deputy
Director of Public Health in the state of Wisconsin where she was responsible for
maternal/child health, chronic disease, environmental health, and communicable
disease programs.
Ms. Kaufman was recently appointed by the Secretary of the Department of
Health and Human Services to be a member of the National Advisory Council of
the Agency for Health Care Policy Research. She is Chair of the American Public
Health Association's Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Section. Recently, she
served as Chair of the Federal Office for Substance Abuse Prevention's Pregnant
and Postpartum Women and Their Infants Grant Review Committee.
She holds a graduate degree in Administrative and Preventive Medicine from the
University of Wisconsin Medical School.
