Dear Mr. Gomez:
We were delighted you could attend our luncheon
with Lou Harris earlier this month. I hope you
found the survey information of interest.
I am writing today to request your support.
While we have a number of programs of particular
interest to the Philip Morris Companies (as
described in my letter of February 10), our most
compelling need is for support of our core
program, the Media Resource Service, the engine
which drives all our other programs.
While the MRS has received foundation grants in
the past (and support from Philip Morris, as
well), most foundations, after a year or two,
prefer to fund new projects. Given the
difficulty of maintaining financial stability for
the MRS, we decided last year to develop a
Council of Corporate Sponsors whose contributions
are e-a-rmarkPd for-the MRS and its sister program,
the Videotape Referral Service. Our corporate
sponsors provide grants of $10,000 and up and,
when possible, commit to multi-year funding.
(A list of our corporate sponsors is enclosed,
for your information.)
I would, therefore, like to request that the
Philip Morris Companies consider a sponsorship
grant of $10,000 for support of our referral
services.
Alan has mentioned your interest in our plans for
a Bay Area Environmental Reporters Workshop.
Once we are closer to having our financial ducks

in a row, we will let you know about our progress with this
proj ect .
Please don't hesitate to call me if you need more information or
have any questions.
Our thanks for your consideration.
