Introductory Notes for
Cliff Lilly
to Introduce
Barbara Reuter
Barbara is an ex-art professor. She retired at the age of 29 and joined
Philip Morris Incorporated in February 1976.
She started her Philip Morris career in Corporate, working for Jim
Bowling, as the Manager of Corporate Contributions.
Five years later, she stopped giving money away for the Corporation -
and moved to International to help make some by selling Seven-Up
extract to independent bottlers overseas.
She got her planning experience in Seven-Up International - and moved
to domestic cigarettes shortly before Seven-Up International was sold to
Pepsi.
Joining Philip Morris USA in 1985, Barbara has worked in Marketing -
on Virginia Slims Tennis, the Virginia Slims Fashion Fun Fair, Merit
Harbor Lights, and Direct Marketing.
Then, in 1987, she moved to Sales, where she oversaw the expansion of
the field sales force by 1,100 people and ran the National Sales Meeting
in Hawaii.
From Sales, Barbara moved to Planning, where she is responsible for the
Five Year Plan, Management presentations, and Special project work.
She is here today to discuss the business planning process at Philip
Morris USA and some of the highlights of our current five year plan.
