Main issues to be dealt with : BARCLAY (Norway, Finland,
Holland, Switzerland, Belgium), DISCUSSIONS WITH THE ISC
(United Kingdom), REVISION OF THE LAW (Finland), PATENT
ISSUES, EXTRAMURAL PROJECTS.
Travel : Norway, United Kingdom, Holland.
Monday 2nd ApriL : Preparation of the meeting.in Oslo with
the Anti-Smoking Council. Preparatory meeting with
Messrs. Pantet and Marcovitch for the visit to Dr.
Siegwart of the Federal Health Service in Bern.
Tuesday 3rd : Meeting in Oslo with the Anti-Smoking
Council. Our Attorney Mr. Bachke and myself met Mr.
Loeksen and two of his niembers of staff. Barclay
presentation and general talk on Industry issues. The
subject of additives (flavours) to low delivery cigarettes
was also discussed. It was found out that the people of
the Anti-Smoking Council and the Ministry in Norway were
completely unaware of the basic facts relating to
additives.
Wednesday 4th : Return flight from Oslo delayed. Rest of
the day literature work.

Thursday 5th : Meeting with Mr. Brooks on Barclay Belgium
and Netherlands. Meeting with Mr. Serrano on topical
issues.
Friday 6th : Contact through Mr. De Courcy with a Belgian
scientist, who is working on topical issues in the field
of tobacco smoke. Compilation and transfer of relevant
literature.
Monday 9th : Meeting with Prof. Wahren of the Karolinska
Institute. Progress report. Meeting with Dr. Hellmann
on an invention relating to cigarette filters.
Tuesday 10th : Background work on environmental tobacco
smoke in view of a meeting with Dr. Westcott and Prof.
Adikofer. Contacts with an institute in Belgium who are
concerned with Barclay-related research.
Wednesday llth : Literature and patent work. Review of
topical issues.
Thursday 12h : Work specifically on the environmental
tobacco smoke issue (Infotab).
Friday 13th : Preparation of briefings for the forthcoming
hearing in Geneva of the Barclay case.
Monday 16th . Meeting with Mr. Pantet on the Barclay
hearing in Geneva. Meeting in London with the heads of
the British Companies and their Research Directors.
Tuesday 17th : Literature work and preparation of topics
for the forthcoming visit of Drs. Osdene and Seligman to
Switzerland. Preparation of an Agenda.
Wednesday 18th : The Geneva court hearing for Barclay was
cancelled at the last minute due to the judge being taken

ill. A new hearing is planned for May. Visit by an
American Lawyer Mr. Lambelet, who is of Swiss origin
(Neuchatel), and who proposed an invention relative to
sidestream smoke reduction.
Thursday 19th : Short 'meeting with Mr. Haugen of Philip
Morris Norway in Neuchatel. Barclay issue. The rest of
the day meeting with Mr. Robinson and Ms. Wells of Philip
Morris EEMA on topical issues.
Friday 20th to Monday 23rd : Public Holiday.
Tuesday 24th : Meeting in Basle with Profs. R. and C.
Leuchtenberger on topical issues in the smoking and health
field (INBIFO and WHO related).
Wednesday 25th : Discussion with Mr. Boder on sampling and
testing protocol for-the Gulf States. Literature and
patent work.
Thursday 26th : Preparation of forthcoming meeting in
Holland on Barclay and departure for Amsterdam together
with Mr. Bradley Brooks. Review of INBIFO projects.
Friday 27th : Meeting imAmsterdam with Messrs. Stoop and
Vogelaar and Mr. Brooks on Barclay Holland.
Monday 30th : Preparation of the forthcoming UK Research
Directors meeting. Preparation of Dutch Barclay court
case (Advertising Code Commission).
