SMOKING ACCOMMODATION POLICY FOPi' WORLD HEADQUARTERS
S'tatement of Purbose
Philip Morris Companies;encourages employees to show
tolerance and use common courtesy in accommodating their
colleague:s' wishes to smoke or not to~smoke. Adults have a
right to smoke; however, we recognize that some people are
bothered by tobacco smoke. It is our intention to minimize
any annoyance to the extent possible. At the same time we.
expect non-smokers to be.tolerant of an employee"s right too
smoke.
Work Stations
If an employee is bothered by tobacco smoke in the air, he
or she should first speak to the smoker and seek an
accommodation through discussion. If the employees cannot
reach a mutually satisfactory arrangement, they should
discuss the issue with their supervisor. The supervisor or
manager is responsible for accommpdatingithe preferences of
each employee.
C„ommoniWork Areas
Employees will show tolerance and courtesy while smoking in
hallways, rest rooms, lobbies, stairways, copying machine
areas, vendingiareas and other areas used by more than one
employee.
Private Offices
Employees may smoke in enclosed offices and are expected to
use courtesy when smoking inianother employee's office.
Elevators.
Under state law, smoking is prohibited in elevators.
Conference Ftooms
Participants in conference room meetings should show
courtesy to each other while smoking during meetings. If'
one participant is bothered by another's smoke,, he or she
should!arrange seating to minimize the annoyance. I'f'an air
quality problem appears to exist in a conference room,
Building Services will assess the ventilation,. Requests

should be made in writing to the Manager, Building Services
for such an assessment.
Cafeteria and Other IDininq Areas
An area ofthe cafeteria will be designated as non-smoking.
Employees are requested to refrain from smoking while in the
designated non-saaokingiarea. In all other dining areas,
employees should observe courtesy while smoking. Private
dining rooms will be treated as conference rooms for the
purpose of the present policy.
Air Filtration Services
Any employee may request and receive with a director's
approval a ventilation assessment of his or her work area.
A Final Note:
Smoking, like other activities pursued in a social context,
may bother some people. Philip Morris believes that
courtesy, common sense and tolerance of other people's
preferences can resolve differences over smoking. We expect
each of our employees to exhibit aispirit of reasonable
accommodation in dealing with this matter.
