Dear Mary,
Report and Recommendations to the Board
I refer to your letter of 10th July which has been read by Messrs.
Sheehy and Stewart Lockhart. As mentioned in my letter of today's
date about the Agenda for the Board meeting, we believe that this
document is something that should be discussed there for both the
issues and the organisation. Broadly speaking, the document has
our approval but there are some comments that we would like to make.
1. Item 2.2.1.
2. We particularly endorse the priority of industry credibility.
Items under 2.3.
. We would like to see completion dates for SAWP's work (as Chairman
of SAWP I will be including these dates in my report to the
Board. At the time these items, namely 2.3.1., 2.3.2. and 2.3.4.
were mooted it was a little difficult to know what could be
considered realistic target dates).
Item 2.4.
We would like this idea developed and hope that it will not be too
much deferred as indicated by the words "at a later date".

4. Item 3.3. N
We would like to consider whether it is possible to change the C.r1
~
Charter in order to avoid the problem indicated. -~

5. Item 5.2.2.
We would like to discuss the underlying idea of promoting acceptance of
two testing standards.
6. Item 6.2.1.
We agree the principle of the advisory group but we do want to ensure
that company executives do not have too great a call on their time.
7. Item 6.2.11.
We believe that it is definitely necessary, rather than "would
probably be necessary" to have a permanent Deputy Secretary General.
We hope that you will find these comments of some use and as requested
have copied them to Dr. Wiethuchter.
With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
r
c.c. Dr. N. Wiethuchter
