1. Warning Label
Discussions between the VdC and the German Ministry of Health resulted in the following
wording of the voluntary warning label:
" The Health Minister: Smoking presents
a risk to your health. The smoke of one
cigarette of this brand contains the
average according to DIN of ....mg nicotine
and .....mg condensate (tar)."

The working is slightly different on packs. and on ads and posters. The warning label will
be obligatory as of 1 Nov 1980 for ads, in February 81 for posters, and on Oct 1, 1981
on packs.and 3-packs.
2. Arbritation Court Suit
B.A.T., Reentsma, Martin Brinkmann, R'.J. Reynolds, and Rothhandle will file an arbitration
suit against PM GmbH as regards Marlboro identification shown during the pro-car race
in the Nciris Race 200 Miles of Nuremberg on June 22, 1980..
3. Pa rl i ainent
B.A.T. and Reemtsma have attacked the Parliament headline "A new top cigarette" and
"with its own cigarette holder" using the play in words in German. The two competitors
hold the view that this claim is not permissible with unfair competition law..
4. Cigarette Test of "Stiftung Warentest"
On July 17, 1980 1/1 ads appeared in the leading German newspapers showing the results
of the secret test of Stiftung Warentest, in a modified form.. The article was headed
"Light (Cigarettes) have Weight, too". The ads are signed by "WHA-World Health Associates",
an organization based in Liechtenstein. It could not be verified whether there is any
connection between WHA and Reemtsma.
