Since the time that Philip A:orris has had a Reseerch,Divfsioa,, nite out idE
ideas concerned with a self-lighting cigerette (see attached list) hevo been
submitted for evelu:tion. Our correspondence about them indicates that
practicelly ell of them were referred to the Marceting Department.
The evalustions of them by the Research Division is summarized belora:

Between 1952 and the present time, fie U'. S. patents have issued on Class 131 -
Subclass 7 - Ignition Source Coabined vith Cigerette; U.S. 2,652,060, U.S. 2,721,
558, U. S. 20724,383, U. S. 2p844,152, U. S. 2,674,700. Three of these patefits,
end one that issued iri 1929 are attached. These are our only copies and should
be returned to the files.
Three outside ideas concerned with a self-extinSuishing cigarette have been sub-
mitted sin_e 1952. Two of these have come to us recently. Thermofaxes of the
ideas end the evaluations of them are sttached. I have been unable to find any
petents issued between 1952-1961 on a self-extiu.;uishing ciberette.
