New York to019 Tekphone 212-867-7777 HALBRUNQ ABC News, Director of Political Coverage Hal Bruno is responsible for the editorial content of political news on the ABC television and radio networks. As a political director, he works closely with the producers and correspondents for all ABC programs - including "14/orld News Tonight," "Good Morning America," "Nightline," "Issues & Answers," -20/20" and every news special dealing with national politics. He frequently appears on air as the network's political analyst. Bruno joined ABC in July, 1978, after 18 years with Newsweek magazine, where he had been a reporter, foreign correspondent, bureau chief, News Editor and Chief Political Correspondent. He has covered every presidential elbction since 1960. Bom and raised in Chicago, his journalism career began while a student at the University of Illinois, where he wrote sports for The Daily Illini and• worked part-time on the Champaign News-Gazette. After graduation in 1950, he started as a reporter for Advertising Age magazine, then became sports editor of the De Kalb (I11.) Daily Chronicle. He served as an Army intelligence officer during the Korean War and returned to journalism as a police reporter for the Chicago City News Bureau. He joined the Chicago American in 1954 and for the next six years he covered• stories ranging from gang warfare in Chicago to wars and revolutions in South Asia, the Middle- East, Europe and the Caribbean. In 1956 he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to India, where he conducted a study of the Indian press and filed stories for the International News Service. Some of his unique foreign assignments have included both sides of the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Cuban revolution, and the Chinese-Indian war in the Himalayas.
