R. Rylander, Y. Peterson and M.-C. Snella, European Journal of Respiratory Diseases, Supplement 133(65): 121-126, 1984. Although this Scottish cohort study included 16,171 individuals, the number of nonsmoking lung cancer cases and controls who reported exposure to ETS was very small. For instance, for males, there were 2 lung cancer deaths among 517 controls and 4 among,310 cases; for females, these numbers were 2 of 523 and 6 of 1394, respectively. Despite these extremely small sample sizes, the authors claim that their data support a dose-response relationship in~males.
