THE SECRETARY OF HEALTHANOHUMAN SERVICES w AS~IwGTO N. O-C . 20201. JUN 2 6 1991 The Honorable Federico Pena Mayor City and County of Denver City and County Building Denver, Colorado 80202 Dear Mayor Pena: Thank you for your letter regarding nonsmoking policies in Denver. It is encouraging to hear of your positive efforts to restrict smoking in indoor facilities. The establishment of agxoke-free_policy for your city's workplaces provides a healthier work environment for employees as well as - visitors. In addition, your strong support of an ordinance to ban smoking at the new Denver International Airport sets an example for other jurisdictions nationwide to take similar action to protect nonsmokers from environmental tobacco smoke. Thank you for your efforts to protect the health of Denver citizens and others who will pass through your airport by restricting smoking in indoor facilities. Sincerely, Louis W. Sulliiran, M.D. 0 co co 1
