I am pleased to present you with a copy of the 1993-1997 Corporate Affairs
Five-Year Plan.
Many of the ideas generated for this plan came from the hard work and
dedication of every one of you. It was evident at the Worldwide Corporate
Affairs conference that you understood our mission -- to position favorably
with key audiences Philip Morris Companies Inc. as the world's most
successfui consumer packaged's goods company. I wanted to share our
strategy for 1993 and beyond so that we can continue to accomplish this
objective.
As you review the plan, please keep in mind that this is a work in progress.
Over the coming months and years, there will be many political and social
changes around the world that will impact our businesses and offer new
challenges to each and every one of us. This plan focuses on the issues that
are of paramount importance to us and outlines strategies to rrnanage them
successfully. For those unseen challenges, the plan should be used as a guide
to formulate new strategies so that we can continue to achieve our goals.
I look forward to working with you over the coming year, and I am confident
that with your talent and expertise, we will fulfill our mission in 1993 and the
years to come.
