R: REDACTED MATERIAL David S. Tappan, Jr. February 1991 BioMviiy. David S. Tappan, Jr. is the retired chairman of the Fluor Corporation. Fluor Corporation is an international engineering, construction and technicall services company with investments in coal and lead. Annual revenues are in excess of $7 billion. Mr_ Tappan first attended the American School of Shanghai, later enrolling at Swarthmore College, where he received a bachelor's degree in economics and finance in 1943. After serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees, in which he held the rank of Lieutenant j.g., he completed graduate studies at Stanford Graduate School of Business,, receiving an MBA degree in 1948. Mr. Tappan joined Fluor in June 1952 as administrative assistant to the vice president - Sales, following four years with U.S. Steel Corporation in its Columbia- Geneva Steel Division in San Francisco, where he. had: worked in sales and engineering. He became vice president - Domestic Sales in 1959 and, in April 1962, vice president for all Fluor's sales operations, both domestic and international. He was named senior vice president in 1968. In December 1971 he organized Fluor Engineers & Constructors, Inc. and became its first president. In 1976, he was appointed vice chairmanrof FDuor's Board of Directors. He has been a member of the Board since 1965. In February 1982 he was named president and chief operating officer, and became chairman and chief executive officer in September 1984. Mr. Tappan retired as CEO on December 31, 1989, continuing as chairman until December 31,,1990! He remains a member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Tappan is a director of Genentech, Inc.; Allianz Insurance Company; Beckman Instruments, Inc.; the United States Chamber of Commerce and The Center for International Private Enterprise. He is a member of the Scrvices Policy Advisory Committee to the United States Trade Representative; and the Advisory Committee for the Trade and Development Program (TDP) to the International Development Cooperation Agency. He is a member of Morgan Bank International Council, Stanford Research Institute Advisory Committee, and the University of Southern California Board of Trustees. He is also a director of the National Business Committee for the Arts; and founder-chairman of the Orange County organization. REDACTED
