Wall REr Philip Morris Support for Basic Research At Bill's request, I have prepared the attached paper describing our discussions of support for-basic research by Philip Morris. Without going into too much detail, I have attempted to describe our efforts over the past several years, leading to our most recent discussions with Drs. Edelman and Lerner. At our next meeting, set for November 4, I intend to have a fairly detailed presentation ready, which will address the issues raised in the last paragraph of the paper. If you do not object, I would like to invite Bob McVicker to join us, as I believe his participation will be helpful. I am also attaching the resumes of Drs. Lerner and Edelman, should you wish to share them with anyone, as well as the biographies or cvs of members of The Scripps Research Institute's Board of Trustees, which Bill requested. Richard Cramer is Chairman of the Board, Dr. Lerner is President and Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. William H. Beers is Senior Vice President and Secretary of the Board. Arthur J.
