William Althaus is chairrnnan of the Board of Advisors of the National Smokers Alliance (NSA) and
a consultant to Burson-Marsteller's V4'ashington; D.C: office, Before joining NSA, Althaus was the
mayor
of York, Pa., having the distinction of being,the youngest person ever elected to that office.
First elected in 1981, Althaus served three consecutive terms as mayor. In 1992, Althaus was
elected president of the U! S: Conference of Mayors where he previously held~ the position of vice

and chairman of the Advisory Board, among other positions.

Oscar Coffey Jr. is president and chief executive officer of the U.S. African-Americani Chamber of
Commerce; Siince : 1983, he has been working to create strategies for members of local chambers of
commerce to share in the collective buying power of .African-American communities..
Besides his work for the U:S'. African-American Chamber of Commerce, Coffey also serves as
president and chief executive officer of the Oakland/Alameda County Black Chamber of Commerce in,
California. Holding this position for 20 years,, Coffey has been coordinating strategies on the
local level.

Bruce Herschensohn

Bruce Herschensohniis a we1l4nown political figure and film maker. Most recently, Herschensohn
was the 1992 Republican candidate for the UIS: Senate in California.
His career, though, did not begin in politics. After a brief stint in the U: S_ Air Force,
Herschensohn started a career in film production in 1954 as filin editor for General Dynamics. He
later
returned to Los Angeles and founded Herschensohn Motion, Picture Productions, a documentary
production company that made films for both government and business. One of HerschensohnIs most
notable films of this time is the documentary "John F. Kennedy: Years, of Lightning, Day of Drums,"
which
was granted a non-partisan act of Congress to allow its exhibition in the United! States.
In 1'968; Herschensohn was appointed to the position of Director of Motion Picture and Television
Service for the United States Informationi Agency (USIA) by President Johnson. After four years and
many awards, Herschensohn resigned from USIA to begin his career in: publiic service as Deputy
Special
Assistant to the President in the Nixon Administrationi He : spent 1972 to 1974 advising the
president on
domestic and foreign poliicy:
Returning to California, Herschensohn became involved in Republican politics. In 1978, hee
became: & political conunentaton for KABC-TV and KABC-AM and was known for his spirited debated
withi former California Senator John Tunney.
Herschensohn has received many distinctions, including being named one of the nat'ron's "Ten
Outstanding, Young Men"' in 1':969 , and i receiving the second-highest civilian award, "The
Distinguished
Service Medal~`in 1972. He was almember of the founding Board of Trustees of'The AmericaniFilm

John Hillerman

John Hillerman is an actor who has enjoyed a successful stage, television and film career.
Hillerman is well-knowni for his portrayal of Jonathan Quayle Higgins on the hit television series,
"Magnum P.Il"
Hillerman began his career in the U! S'. Air Force. While stationed in Fort Worth, Texas,
Hillerrnann
joined a community theatre group and realized he should pursue a career in:acting: After his release
from
the Air Force, he moved to New York and enjpyed an actiwe ! stage career, appeamng in more than 100
leading,roles in such plays as "Othello,"' "Our Town," "Death of a Salesman" and "The Seven+Year
Itch."
He later moved to Washington; D.C.,,where he spent four years at the Theatre Club; starring in
virtually
every production presented during that time.
After 15 years o&the stage, he set off for Hollywood to pursue a movie and television career. He
was recognized by producer/director Peter Bogdanovich and I has since been i cast in, 21 movie
roles,
including "The Last Picture Show,"' "What's Up Doc?," "China Town" and! "Paper Moon."' In addition
to
his big,screen career, he has made more than13p0 television appearances during his 24 years in
California,
ranging from super sleuth Simon Brimmer on "Ellery Queen" to Bonnie Frankiin's boss in "One : Day at
a
Time."
Hillermanls most popular role, though, was as the acerbic, ex-British army veteran, Jonathan~
Higgins, in "MagnumIP:I." He enjoyed this role for more than eight years, receiving both an

Golden Globe Award ~ as Outstanding Supporting Actor. When "Magnum" ended, Hillerman took a brief

hiatus and then accepted the role ! as Sandy Duncan's father in "The Hogan Family." He also has made

Dreams," "Murder She Wrote," "Hart to Hart" and NBC's three-part, six-hour series, "Around't'he
