The Congressional hearings on the ETS risk assessment revealed new
and critical information about EPA's use of science. In addition to
testimony challenging EPA's science, internal EPA documents released
at a hearing demonstrated that some. of agency's own staff disagreed
with the conclusion. In order to generate media interest in this issue
we conducted background briefings and distributed relevant materials
to a select group of journalists.
As a result of this effort, editorials andd commentaries critical of EPA
appeared in The Dal1as Morning News, New York Newsday and National
Review as well as the environmental trade press. Since two of the
commentaries were distributed to various papers either by a media
syndicate or a policy group editorial service, these articles were
reprinted in newspapers throughout the U.S. Attached are copies of
the articles.
