SUBJECT: CAIN BUTT STUDY
of
At our meeting with the FTC staff on July 14, 1981, the question was
raised as to the estimated tar deliveries of Now, Barclay, and the
hybrid cigarette in Dr. Cain's study. ldovr /^?..
Machine smoking of these cigarettes gave the fol•lowing tar/nicotine
-
ratios : e~,W
Barclay - 2.6
Now 5.7
Hybrid 2.9
Dr. Cain showed the estimated average human nicotine deliveries to be:
Barclay 0.33 mg
Now 0.32 mg
Hybrid 0.20 mg
These lead to the following tar estimates:
Barclay 2.6 x 0.33 - 0.9 mg
Now 5.7 z 0.32 - 1.8 mg
Hybrid 2.9 x 0.20 - 0.6 mg
Harold Pillsbury asked for filter efficiencies. These were:
.
k
Barclay 73.4z
Now 67.8z
Hybrid 75.0X
