Board weight reduction programm generated effective savings of appr. USS 646'848.- from January to
March.
Zimbabwe We see initial prices for some styles as being absurdly high in view of the poor quality of
this drought-stres.sed crop, and
the general world market situation with considerable stocks of good quality tobaccos still
available. Once again, this
market seems to operate against all logic and most dealers seem to be participating in the buying
purely on speculation. To
date, we have not made any purchases and will continue monitoring the situation.
R&D : Based on an extensive test program performed at FTR with the Rhodia Tongue, it was shown that
an average tow saving of approx. 1.5 %
under normal production conditions can be expected, by setting the pneumatic Rhodia equipment with
the right air pressure.
VARIOUS ; Due to the implementation of the new SAP system in Germany, productivity and other
personnel related figures are not available this
month. For this reason our manufacturing centers workforce schedule had to be left out of this
report.
