Nicholson, a lawyer in Indianapolis, was nominated by President Johnson today as( a member of the Federal, Trade Commi'ssibn: Mr. Nicholson, a Democrat, will succeed John R. Reilly on the five•man commission, whiclrl has often, divided 3 to 2 re- cently on the issues of businessi regulation that come beofre it. Among these issues, currentl, are the regulation of cigarette advertising and the question of whether the commission should et into a civil rights problemi y attempting to police real~ I~state advertising. Mr. Rcilly had voted for an, activist stance onn the part of' the commission. Mr. Nicholson, 39 years old,, was an unsuccessful candiate for the House of Represtnta- tives in 1966. He ran against th Republican incumbent, william G. Bray.
