Abstract

The Personnel Office is in the process of developing a formal salary plan for The Institute. This plan will include the following: the establishment of salary grades based upon an evaluation of the duties and responsibilities of each position; the development of salary ranges based upon a survey of salaries paid to comparable positions in other Washington, D.C.

Frankovic Development of Compensation Program The Personnel Office is in the process of developing a formal salary plan for The Institute. This plan will include the following: the establishment of salary grades based upon an evaluation of the duties and responsibilities of each position; the development of salary ranges based upon a survey of salaries paid to comparable positions in other Washington, D.C. trade associations of similar size and stature; the documentation of policies and procedures~to set individual salaries and to maintain the salary plan; and the formalization of performance analysis. In order to develop this salary plan, it is first necessary for each member of the staff to write a position description. To assist you, the~e are two (2) completed position descriptions attached to this memorandum which you may use as examples.. The position description format of the Special Projects Director should be .used for the professional staff, while the format for Editorial Secretary is to be used for support staff. The position descriptions should be written in third-person statement form. The professional staff should complete all.sections of the form and submit it to you for review and approval. Support staff should complete only the Primary Responsibilities section which should then be reviewed by ~is/her immediate supervisor. When both the employee and supervisor are satisfied with the draft, you should review and approve the Primary Responsibilities and, with the immediate supervisor, complete the first two sections entitled Summary and Mimimum Qualifications. ~ Examples of common job factors that should be addressed when writing each position description include: I.
