The following are proposed actions for TI media relations program during 1982. GOA~: Increase number and quality of TI Washington media contacts during 1982. Specifically, concentrated effort to be made toward establishing and/or maintaining among TI staff at least one, good, ongoing contact at the following news organizations: Associated Press, United Press Inzernational, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, TIME, NEWSWEEK, and U.S. NEWS ~ WORLD REPORT. PROPOSED ACTIONS: i. Conduct inventory of existing T f contacts at targeted organizations to identi~y needs and areas of strength. Inventory to be updated and reported on a quarterly basis using attached form. Inventory to be completed by FebruarZ 12. 2. Director of Media Relations to become actively involved in (or identify opportunities for other TI executives to become involved in) Washington media-related organ- izations: National Press Club, Radio/Television News Directors Association, Washington Press Club, Public Relations Society of America, and International Association of Business Communicators, for example. Director of Media Relations to begin initiating, or arranging for other TI executives, informal meetings with members of the Washington press corp. Seek assistance from agency and third parties. Director of Media Relations to initiate and maintain ongoing dialogue with other Institute departments to obtain information that might be useful to media contacts. Second Quarter: i. Update and report inventory and activities. Third ~uarter: i. Update and report inventory and activities. Seek vehicle and conduct TI "news event" or briefing for Washington media. Initiate TI Christmas party for Washington media similar to that given by Federal Relations Staff. ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATION: Explore possibility of hosting Washington dinner parties for top-level TI and member company executives with Washington bureau staffs of TIME, NEWSWEEK ~ U.S. NEWS ~ WORLD REPORT.
