Reported by Pete O'Grady, at the hearing on 5126/87 it was decided that the 4-cent cigarette tax would remain in the budget bill, however, the O.T.P. would be removed. There will be another hearing on Wednesday, 5/27/87 at 2:00 to accept or reject amendments. Then on either 5/28/87, 5/29/87 or 5/30/87 it will go for a floor vote at which time the minority leader will offer an amendment to remove cigarette tax altogether. We will report the outcome. Summary: There will be a hearing on Tuesday, 5/26/87 for the Budget Bill - HB-171 is the cigarette portion (4-cent) of that bill and will be included in the hearing.
