WEEKLY ACTIVITIES REPORT WEEK OF MAY 11 - 15, 1987 NAME: RON MORRIS REGION: VII LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY o Alabama - Worked with Calvin Whitesell regarding legislative activities. Contacted Dr. David Weeks regarding his testimony on HB 67 before Health Committee on May 20. o Arkansas - No legislative activity. o Florida - RVP spent part of week in Florida working with lobbyist and RD to combat adverse legislation. Co-hosted small reception for Speaker Jon Mills. Attended reception for Speaker Designate Gustafson. PCB #8, was amended and now is HB 1430. Regional Director and lobbyist coordinated a 12-member coalition effort on Friday to insure defeat of SB 414. Bill to be heard on May 18 in Commerce committee. attend hearing. Attended Republican party fundraiser. o Kentucky - No legislative activity. o Louisiana - All quiet in the legislature, no bills moving. Spoke with our representatives in New Orleans. Indications are that Mr. Giarrusso will probably make another effort to restriction smoking in public places. o Mississippi - No legislative activity. RVP to TI19810158

ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES o Worked with Dr. Wilmer Browning on agenda for Council for Burley Tobacco meeting on June 19. Spoke with Walker Merryman regarding same. o Prepared article for Kentucky Tobacco and Candy Association's brochure to be used during their convention. o Sarah forwarded contribution requests for Alabama and Florida to D.C. o Continued to work on federal project. o Discussed NTC activities with Ann Gordon. NEXT WEEK'S ACTIVITIES O O 0 O Monday - Travel to Tallahassee to attended hearing on SB 414 (smoking in public places). Tuesday - Travel to Montgomery to prepare for hearing on HB 67 (clean indoor air act) on 5/20. Dr. David Weeks and Simon Turner to appear as witnesses.
