Bill is slated for hearing on Monday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. in Senate Commerce committee. Coalition members contacted were: Barrett Johnson, Florida Restaurant Assoc. Jim Tilman, Florida Hotel/Motel Assoc. Ted Granger, Florida State Chamber Jack Lee, Associated Industries of FL Bill Kundrat, Florida Retail Federation Bonnie Hamm-Basham, National Federation of Independent Businesses Fred Martin & Harold Johnson, Barnett Banks Doug Mann, Florida Farm Bureau Bob Rhinehart, Florida Amusement & Vending Assoc. Wilson Wright, FTCA Guy Spearman, TI John French, Philip Morris, USA Steve Metz, Philip Morris, USA Attended meeting on 5/14 regarding contact by three lobbyist to senators on Senate Commerce committee relating to SB 414. Also attended meeting later that day to obtain results of contacts. Had conference with Ron Morris regarding TI activities and Florida legislation. Contacted Jane Anders and Guy Spearman on daily basis. Took several legislative secretaries to lunch. Attended South Florida Farm Bureau Federation legislative social. TI19810155

Meeting was held in Tallahassee on 5/I~. Alerted Florida coalition members that HB la,30 (companion to SB 41~) had been referred to House Appropriations committee, chaired by Rep. Sam Bell, who is a militant anti-smoker. Sent list of congressmen and senators on House Ways & Means and Senate Finance Committee to Bernard Thompson of Vending Machine Association of Gulf South. This group will send copies of their resolution on FET to members of both committees. Forwarded copy of above referenced resolution to Florida Amusement and Vending Association for approval by their Board of Directors. Presided over Florida Legislative Kiwanis Club committee meeting. Drafted letter to be sent to all members of Florida coalition regarding their assistance in contacting Florida Congressmen on FET. Drafted letter to be sent to all Commissioners of Agriculture requesting their assistance in contacting their respective congressman regarding FET. Attended Legislative Trail Ride luncheon sponsored by Commissioner of Agriculture Doyle Conner. Gave Commissioner Marlboro money clips to be given to all those who attended luncheon. Wrote thank you letters to those who assisted us last week in New Orleans. Contacted Paula Duhaime tothank her regarding suggested resolutions on FET. Subsequently she forwarded same to all TI field staff for their use. Forwarded Florida TI envelopes to Louisville to be used for mail outs regarding FET project. TI19810156

Delivered tobacco products, via Ron Morris, to various Florida legislators. Called Walter Woodson regarding my activities on federal excise tax issue. Also reported use of "Smoking in the Workplace" vldeo. Visited with Doug Mann and Kevin Kelley of Florida Farm Bureau Federation regarding their involvement with anti-tobacco legislation.
