LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY
The Missouri House defeated House Committee Substitute for
House Bills 206, 29, 288 and 523 (Smoking restrictions) by a
vote of 62-77.
The Missouri Senate perfected (First-round approval) Senate
Bill 111 (Smoking restrictions) by a vote of 16-11. Final
Senate action on the bill is expected to come during the week
of Ray 18.
The Oklahoma House passed Senate Bill 327 (Smoking
restrictions) by a vote of 7q-24. The senate is expected to
concur with House amendments on the bill and declare it
"finally passed" during the week of May 18.
LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT ACTIVITY
Conferenoed with Hurst Marshall and Oklahoma legislative
counsel Ken Nanoe about strategy on Senate Bill 327 and
opposition to cigarette tax increases in that state.
Conferred with Missouri legislative counsel John Britton about
strategy with respect to Senate Bill 111 and House Committee
Substltute/House Bill's 206, 29, 288 and 523.
Conferenced with Terry Frakes and Texas legislative counsel
about strategy against Senate Bill 165 (Smoking restrictions),
Senate Bill 932 (Indoor air quality), and anticipated
cigarette tax legislation.
Made telephone contact with the leaders of all wholesaler and
vendor organizations in Region VIII and urged them to generate
contacts with members of congress concerning the FET issue.
Prepared for Hurst Marshall a legislative status report for
all Region VIII states.
