LEGI$-TRAC D I S TR IB UTIO N SOURCE Battison Becket Buckley Cannell Duhalme Woodson Yoe X Caperton Carter Curl Date Reported by 5/26/87 Hoffman Complete for each report: State/Locality: Bill/Ordinance #: Issue: Sponsor: Intro Date: Commlttee(s): Hearing Date(s): Summary: Action: Paradise Valley, AZ Ordinance Restaurants Public Places 5114187 Bans smoking in most public places and requires restaurants to provide 25 percent of seating capacity or floor space, whichever is greater, for non-smokers. It also requires that customers be told whether non-smoking areas are available and be asked which type of seating they prefer. Restaurants can appeal to the council to reduce the 25 percent requirement under a "hardship" provision. Bars, lounges, private clubs and recreation facilities are among areas that are excluded from the smoking ban. The ordinance mainly affects the half-dozen exclusive resort hotels and a few other restaurants in the affluent, 16-square-mile, largely residential community. **'5/14/87 - Paradise Valley Town Council adopted ordinance.
